Top tips for washing your horses wardrobe at home 🧼

We know your horses wardrobe probably consists of more pairs of boots than you will ever own, a numnah for every possible occasion & let’s not get started on the rugs.  They all need to be cleaned regularly to make sure your horse isn’t irritated by sweat, mud & excess hair.
Here are our top tips for washing your horses wardrobe items without getting into trouble, breaking your washing machine, or worse… damaging your favourite numnah! 😱
  1. Check the manufacturer washing instructions, some will recommend washing regularly, however some items require occasional washing in order to preserve the product quality.  You may just need a horse pipe & a soft brush.
  2. Buckles can be super noisy & potentially damage your machine, use hair bobbles to wrap socks around them to dampen the sound & protect your machine.
  3. Invest in a wash bag, especially good for washing your horses muddy boots, they prevent too much dirt & arena surface going into your washing machine drains causing a problem.  Simply put your items in the bag, fasten any velcro parts so items don’t stick together & pop it in the wash.  When you take it out, give the bag a shake (outside preferably…) & watch all the bits you saved from going in your washing machine pipes!

  4. Use a gentle, non-bio washing detergent & avoid using fabric conditioner as it can be irritating for your horse.  If your horse is extra sensitive, run an extra rinse cycle to make sure no detergent residue is left.  We recommend washing at 30 degrees to prevent any damage to your horse’s wardrobe. (better for the environment too!) 🌍
  5. Run an empty cycle afterwards, you could also add some washing machine cleaner.  If your horse is especially hairy, add in a sachet of hair dissolver. The other users of the washing machine will thank you… 🧼
  6. Make sure no-one else is in the house, what they don’t know won’t hurt them.  P.s. we won’t tell anyone that your horses wardrobe is bigger than yours.
